Purpose

To turn the data into information.

DESIRED OUTCOME

Once this step is completed, you will have taken the raw data collected and presented it in such a way that you can identify opportunities for improvement or potential causes of problems.

How to do it

Using data from existing data bases or from the checksheets analyse it using pareto charts, histograms or run charts to determine the pattern and shape of the data.

Identify potential sources of error, waste, rework or things gone wrong from the data.

Use the 80/20 rule to continually focus the team’s efforts.

Focus on the vital few, not the trivial many.
