Action 3.4 Collect Data

Purpose

To collect data at the measurement points identified in the previous step to determine how the process is performing.

Once this step is completed, you will have collected data that you are confident represents the actual performance of the process, as seen by the people who do the work and the customer.

Design checksheets and train people in how to use them to collect data.

Some data may already exist in information systems and reports, and this data can be used as long as it is appropriate to what is being measured.

Pro tips

It is important to collect the data for the measures that have been identified, not just take existing data and design a measure around it.
